New Order release ‘Be a Rebel [Mark Reeder’s Dirty Devil Remix]’, the latest in the series of versions of their acclaimed latest single: https://mute.ffm.to/no-bar-rmxd
In December, the band put out ‘Be A Rebel [Remixes Part One], a collection of 5 reworkings of the song – from New Order’s Bernard Sumner (Outlaw Mix), as well as international renowned DJs Paul Woolford and Maceo Plex – recommitting the band’s dance floor legacy.
Now, it’s the turn of Mark Reeder, dance music guru, label owner and multi-faceted artist. Reeder has a deep history with New Order, hailing from Manchester but moving to Berlin in 1978, he was the German label rep for Factory Records before forming his own band, Die Unbekannten, who became Shark Vegas and toured Europe with New Order in 1984. Bernard Sumner produced the band’s seminal single for Factory ‘You Hurt Me’ in 1986. His electronic dance label MFS has nurtured the careers of Paul Van Dyk and many others and he remains a respected and celebrated figure of dance music’s past and present.
Mark’s documentary about his life in cold war Berlin ‘B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West Berlin’ inspiredNew Order to use some scenes for their ‘Singularity’ video from last album ‘Music Complete’.
Mark Reeder – “Although I have been friends with Bernard Sumner for over 40 years, I am like any New Order fan really, always excited when I hear there is a new release.
Once again, it was a great honour to be asked to remix ‘Be a Rebel’, especially because it is a song that I could really identify with and I knew instantly what I wanted to do with it.
We’re living in trying times and I think everyone needs a song that both inspires and uplifts our spirits and I have tried my best to contribute to that emotion in my remix. I feel this song has such a positive message and I hope you can feel it too?”
New Order also released the [Renegade Spezial Edit] of ‘Be a Rebel’ in September, the result of Bernard Sumner’s collaboration on a capsule range for adidas Spezial. This mix is an extended edit of the Adidas _nwrdrSPZL promotional video soundtrack, whose accompanying film features dancer Rentaro Nakaaki of the English National Ballet.
‘Be a Rebel’, with its message to celebrate ourselves and appreciate what we have, even in hard times, was originally planned as a release ahead of New Order’s tour last year, but with live shows on hold and their dates re-scheduled to 2021, the band felt it important to share new music with fans. “In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song. We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together. We hope you enjoy it… until we meet again.” – Bernard Sumner
The band announced a huge homecoming show in Manchester’s Heaton Park, supported by Hot Chip and Working Men’s Club for 10 September 10 2021 and they are preparing to release Education Entertainment Recreation (Live at Alexandra Palace) on album and film, their only UK show of 2018 at London’s Alexandra Palace and the first live show released on Blu-Ray from the band’s now established line-up of Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert, Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman.
