Yann Tiersen will curate a very special Halloween event in Paris this year, celebrating the centenary of the Fantômas series, directed by Louis Feuillade.
Tiersen has selected and is working with Tim Hecker, James Blackshaw, Loney Dear, Amiina and his own band to provide a live score for each of the five films from the restored Fantômas series, which will run for six hours in the beautiful surroundings of the Théâtre de Châtelet, Paris.
Fantômas is the ultimate lord of terror and master of disguise. Based on Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre’s books, the Fantômas films were released soon after their publication and the series charting the sadistic murderer soon made Fantômas one of the most popular characters in French crime fiction, as well as a favourite with the avant-garde, particularly the surrealists.
Yann Tiersen’s Fantômas live event will be streamed live via his website.
Yann Tiersen is currently in the studio working on the follow up to 2011’s Skyline (described by MOJO as “life affirming”, by Clash as a “…remarkable musical talent” and in Drowned In Sound’s 8* review as “euphoric”). The new album was recorded between between Paris, Ouessant and Iceland and is set for release in spring 2014.
Before then, here’s a taste of some new Yann Tiersen work, entitled Janet, from a soundtrack he is currently working on:
