“Flamboyant, radical, joyous and purveyors of some of the finest pop songs” The Quietus
“Big hearted music” MOJO
ERASURE continue their vinyl album reissues series with the release of Wild!, Chorus and I Say I Say I Say, all number one albums on original release and containing some of the most iconic Erasure songs ever, including ‘Love To Hate You’, ‘Drama!’, ‘Always’ and ‘Blue Savannah’, on 8 April 2016.
As with Wonderland, The Circus and The Innocents (released earlier this year), Wild!, Chorus and I Say I Say I Say, will be pressed on 180gsm vinyl, cut from the original vinyl masters with the artwork faithfully replicated to incorporate all of the original finishes, and are available on vinyl for the first time since their original release.
Describing the first in this series of vinyl reissues marking the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut album, The Quietus’ John Doran said “… the mastering is so crisp and the packaging so luxuriant on these three reissues that I’m taking the relatively unusual step, for me, of consigning my original copies to the charity shop and keeping these instead.” while Thomas H Green at theartsdesk said “listening back to these, cut well on heavyweight vinyl, I’m able to appreciate the craft and sass beneath the gloss”.
In 1985, Vince Clarke, still fresh from successes with Depeche Mode and Yazoo, advertised in Melody Maker for a singer and found Andy Bell. He later admitted, “I didn’t think it would last 30 weeks, never mind 30 years”, but so began one of the UK’s most successful songwriting partnerships. 1985’s Wonderland was by no means an immediate success. Incredible to think now that an album containing ‘Oh L’Amour’ and ‘Who Needs Love Like That’ wasn’t a huge hit, but in reality it wasn’t until 1987’s The Circus that Erasure debuted on Top of the Pops with ‘Sometimes’. The Innocents (1988) was the first album to hit the number one slot, and that continued with Wild! (1989), Chorus (1991) and I Say I Say I Say (1994). From there, the BRIT and Ivor Novello winning pop duo have released a staggering number of albums and had 17 top 10 singles (with 35 singles charted in the UK Top 40).
2015’s Always The Very Best of Erasure, entered the UK Albums Chart at #9 late last year, and the anniversary releases continue into 2016 with further sets of vinyl reissues and an autumn release of a deluxe super box featuring extended versions, B-sides (voted for by the fans), rarities, live tracks, remixes, playlists compiled by Vince Clarke and Andy Bell and much, much more.
