‘ArchLive’ at ICA, London 14 March & Kizuna Film Premiere

Simon Fisher Turner has announced a unique collaboration with Factory Floor, as part of their Artist Residency at the ICA. The performance, on 14 March, will see Simon Fisher Turner reworking sounds from their forthcoming album alongside his own. In addition, Simon Fisher Turner has contributed music to Ryuichi Sakamoto and Tomoyasu Hirano’s Kizuna project, a collection of artist’s work collated online to help raise funds for the organisations dealing with the recent natural and made made disasters in Japan. Fisher Turner’s music soundtracks a film by Shiro Takatani, which is online now at: http://kizunaworld.org.

With a career as varied and diverse as his current projects, Fisher Turner has most recently become reknowned for his film soundtrack work which began with Derek Jarman – he scored many films, from Caravaggio (1986), through to Jarman’s final work Blue (1993). Simon Fisher Turner is currently working on the BFI’s restoration of The Epic of Everest (1924), the official film record of the third attempt to climb Mt. Everest, featuring ill-fated climbers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine who died on the expedition.

The film, set for release in 2013 (with the soundtrack to be released on Mute), follows Fisher Turner’s work on The Great White Silence (1924) restoration. Talking about the project he said, “It’s a real privilege to be asked to work on such a stunning and historic film. The archaeology of sound and vision has become my greatest passion.”
