“listen to it if you want to get yourself pumped for an evening of stomping to aggressive dance instrumentals…it’s not for the faint-hearted.“

“an addictive take on dark, industral house music”

Diamond Version is set to release EP2 via digital download this month on November 27th, and as a physical 12″ on December 4th. Featuring the tracks “Science For A Better Life”, “Forever New Frontiers” and “Shift The Future”, this is the next installment in a sequence of five 12″ / download EPs released throughout this year and next year, culminating in an album early 2013.
In anticipation of EP2‘s release the duo released their video for “Science for a Better Life” last week and this week bring you the video for “Forever New Frontiers“. Like all it’s predecessors, this video features rhythmic LED lights, palpitating in time to the electronic beats, washing over the icy, steel tones with life-like energy.
EP2 follows on the heels of EP1. The first EP, entitled Technology At The Speed Of Life / Empowering Change, was released this past summer, being described by the UK’s The Wire as “metallic ring modulated tones gleam in the dark always driven forward by a malevolent computational funk”. EP2 promises that and more!

Shift The Future
Beyond their aural art, Diamond Version explore the visual Daily Short Message Information Culture (DSMC), their phrase to describe the relentless slogans we are bombarded with, rendered meaningless by their constant repetition. “We both are obsessed with company logos,” explain Diamond Version. “We collected these slogans and started reading them, without knowing the companies. In this amount and concentration they became absurd.”
Earlier this year a version of a track off this EP, “Shift The Future”, was transmitted to festivalgoers at the No Nukes festival via one of these DSMC’s. Taking place in Japan, this festival was organized by Ryuichi Sakamoto as a reaction to the reopening of the Oi nuclear power plant following 2011’s nuclear disaster. Watch the minimal, but powerful, video message here.

Diamond Version: Mission Statement
Diamond Version is the collaborative project between two of the most groundbreaking, experimental and forward thinking creators in modern music, Byetone and Alva Noto. As joint heads of the German-based label Raster-Noton, with their solo projects, they have been releasing work that spectacularly blurs the lines between the visceral and the conceptual, bridging the gap between gallery and dancefloor.
“Diamond Version is a project born out of a live situation. We occasionally performed encores together after our solo sets. These spontaneous and improvised tracks always had a kind of “special energy” which we missed in our solo works.” The debut of their audio-visual live performance, with special guest Atsuhiro Ito, was at Sonar 2012. Further dates will be announced shortly.
Raster-Noton and Mute have collaborated previously in the past with the Short Circuit Festival at the Roundhouse London in 2011 and the Raster-Noton 15th Anniversary event at Berghain, Berlin.
