COLD SPECKS are currently on tour in Europe (full dates below), and recently posted an update of ‘Holland’, from the debut album. ‘We Are Many (Revisited)’ is a powerful, political track, borne from Cold Specks’ recent American tour. Al Spx has explained its genesis:
“I shouldn’t have to remember the first time I was called a nigger as vividly as my first kiss. I shouldn’t have to shock the wool straight for you. I shouldn’t have to feel like my skin colour is a crime. I am exhausted. We are many and we are exhausted.
I was in America when the Ferguson grand jury decision was announced. I was there again when it was announced the police officer who placed Eric Garner into a fatal chokehold would not be indicted. Many people, and certainly every black person in America felt something that day. For me, it was an overwhelming sense of sadness.”

Cold Specks, aka Al Spx, returned with a new album, Neuroplasticity, in 2014. Voted one of Wall Street Journal and Los Angeles Times’ albums of the year, the album was described by the Daily Mirror “The sound of a singular talent magnificently and defiantly coming into her own” while the Evening Standard described it as “Spx’s brooding, beautiful second album” and Uncut wrote that it has “…”the kind of fever pitch of confrontational intensity which bears comparison with Nick Cave & PJ Harvey, combined with the tribal kick of 80’s Kate Bush”.
